Etsy accounting when a supplier fulfills your orders
A shop that buys from a supplier after each sale has two sides: money coming in from sales, and money going out for supplier orders, Etsy fees and other costs. You only know whether you earn money when you see both. This is not tax advice: for taxes, talk to an accountant.
01What to record
- Sales, with the date Etsy collected the payment.
- Supplier purchases, one per sale.
- Etsy fees: listing, transaction, payment processing, advertising.
- Refunds and canceled sales.
- Subscriptions and tools, such as Etsy Plus, a domain name or software.
- Deposits that Etsy sends to your bank, on the date they arrive.
Etsy gives a monthly statement you can download as a CSV file. When a payment reserve is on, it shows a status and an estimated availability date for each sale in reserve.
What Sereane measures on its own
Sereane reads your real orders: Etsy sales, supplier purchases and Etsy fees. These lines are measured, and you cannot delete them.
Example: made-up figures and items.
02What you declare
Some costs Sereane cannot see: your subscription, your Etsy Ads spending, a domain name, a tool, and the deposits Etsy sends you. You add them yourself with Add a line. Sereane does not read Etsy’s deposits, so you declare each one on its date.
Real profit is calculated from what is measured and what you declare. Sereane does not invent what it cannot see.
03Several periods, several shops
You can look at a day, a week, a month or a year, and the screen says the same thing at every scale. With several shops, you see the total and the detail per shop.
