How to dropship on Etsy? Etsy allows one case
If you planned to dropship to Etsy from a supplier catalog, the honest answer is that you mostly cannot. Etsy’s help center says drop shipping is not allowed on Etsy, with one limited exception for craft and party supplies. The rule itself is explained in Is dropshipping allowed on Etsy?. This page is the practical side: what Etsy’s own pages say you can do when someone else makes or ships part of your order, as read on October 19, 2026. It is not a way around the rule.
01Step by step: check each product before you list it
- Is it a craft or party supply, as Etsy defines it? Then Etsy accepts that a supplier ships it.
- Is it your own original design, made by a production partner? Then declare the partner and show the real shipping location.
- Is it customized with the buyer’s own text or image? That can also go through a production partner.
- Did you make, modify or assemble it by hand? It can count as made by you.
- None of these? Then it does not belong in an Etsy shop, whatever tool you use.
Each case is detailed below, with what Etsy asks of you.
02The one case: craft and party supplies
Etsy says sellers may drop ship craft and party supplies. In the Creativity Standards, craft supplies are tools and materials meant for making a new item by hand: yarn, beads, clay tools, blanks that still need creative work, and kits. Party supplies are items meant for decorating a specific event, such as balloons, banners and wrapping paper.
Etsy lists what falls outside: ready-to-use blanks such as plain t-shirts, caps or mugs, generic kitchen tools, office, garden and DIY supplies, and generic items that also have an everyday use.
03Your own design, made by a production partner
This is not drop shipping, and Etsy treats it differently. A production partner is a company or person outside your shop who physically produces items from your own original design, for example a printing service, an apparel producer or an engraver. The design has to be yours. Etsy asks you to:
- declare the production partner on the listing and in your shop’s About section;
- show the real shipping location, which may be the partner’s, not yours;
- use photos and videos that meet Etsy’s listing photo standards, which are strict about stock images and other sellers’ pictures.
04Items customized by the buyer
Etsy also accepts items produced by a production partner using text or an image the buyer provides, such as a shirt printed with the buyer’s name. The customization is what makes the item original.
05Items you make yourself
Items you make by hand, modify by hand, or assemble by hand from commercially available components can count as made by you. Etsy’s examples include attaching charms to a chain necklace or sewing patches on a jacket. A very light touch, such as sticking a mass-produced ornament on a store-bought item, does not count.
06What is not allowed
Listing products you did not make or design and having a supplier ship them as they are is exactly what Etsy calls drop shipping. Outside the supplies exception it is not allowed, and Etsy says working with businesses that are not real production partners, only to source products for your shop, can lead to penalties up to account suspension. No tool changes that.
Where Sereane fits
Sereane helps with the repetitive tasks of a sale: orders with a supplier, tracking numbers and customer messages. It does not decide what you may sell on Etsy and it does not check your listings. That check is yours, and Etsy’s pages are the reference.
Example: made-up figures and items.
