Is dropshipping allowed on Etsy?
Short answer: mostly no. Does Etsy allow drop shipping? Etsy answers on its own help page, Does Etsy Allow Drop Shipping or Reselling?: drop shipping is not allowed on Etsy, with one limited exception for craft and party supplies. Reselling is also not allowed, apart from a few categories. This page sums up the rule as Etsy’s own pages state it, read on October 19, 2026. For what to check product by product, see how to dropship on Etsy.
01Does Etsy allow drop shipping? What Etsy says
Etsy’s Seller Policy says every item sold on Etsy must be made, designed, handpicked or sourced and supplied by the seller, and that drop shipping and reselling are not allowed except in the specific cases Etsy describes.
Etsy defines drop shipping as selling ready-made products that ship straight from a third-party supplier to the customer, with no alteration or customization by the seller. Reselling is selling a commercially available item that the seller did not make or design.
02Can you dropship on Etsy?
Only for craft and party supplies, as Etsy defines them. For anything else, a supplier shipping a ready-made product straight to your buyer is exactly what Etsy calls drop shipping, and it is not allowed. A production partner making your own design is a different case, covered below.
03The exceptions
- Craft and party supplies. Etsy says sellers may drop ship these. Craft supplies are tools and materials whose main purpose is making something new by hand. Party supplies are items whose main purpose is decorating a particular event.
- Vintage items. Items that are at least 20 years old and that you picked yourself.
- Gift baskets. Themed collections that you chose and packaged yourself. Etsy says fully resold gift baskets are not allowed.
Etsy’s Creativity Standards are clear that ready-to-use products do not qualify. Their examples of what does not count as a craft supply include blank t-shirts, caps and mugs that can be used as they are.
04Production partners
Etsy allows a production partner, such as a print-on-demand service, to make and ship your items, but only when the item is your own original design, or when it is customized with text or an image supplied by the buyer. You have to say so on the listing, and your shipping information has to show where the item really ships from.
If you use a production partner for products you did not design and buyers did not personalize, Etsy says that breaks its policies. Etsy also says that working with businesses that do not qualify as production partners, just to source products for your shop, violates its reselling rules and can lead to penalties up to account suspension.
05What happens if you break the rules
According to the Seller Policy, Etsy can remove any listing that breaks its rules, and the listing fees are not refunded. Etsy can also suspend or close an account, and you still owe the fees on your statement.
06The risks, in Etsy’s own words
- Listings removed. Etsy can remove listings that break its rules, and the listing fees are not refunded.
- Suspension or closure. Etsy can suspend or close your account, and you still owe the fees on your statement.
- Money held back. Etsy Payments Policy says a payment account reserve is placed when Etsy associates you, your business model or your transactions with a significant financial risk. A percentage of each new sale is then held for a period Etsy shows in your Payment account. The pages we read give no fixed duration: it is set per shop and can be extended.
07What this means for you
Before you build a business around a supplier catalog, check each product against Etsy’s categories. If a product is not clearly handmade, designed by you, handpicked, or supplies, it does not belong in an Etsy shop, whatever tool you use.
Where Sereane fits
Sereane takes over the repetitive tasks of a sale: preparing the supplier order, putting the tracking number on Etsy, and gathering customer messages. It does not check your listings against Etsy’s rules and it cannot make an item allowed. That part is yours, and Etsy’s pages above are the reference.
Example: made-up figures and items.
