How to add a tracking number to an Etsy order

01Adding tracking when you complete the order

1. On Etsy.com, open Shop Manager, then Orders.
2. In the New tab, select Update progress on the order, then Complete order.
3. Choose a ship date. You can pick up to 3 days ahead, and dates are in Eastern Time. Etsy does not send the shipping notification to the buyer until the ship date or, for some carriers, until the carrier scans the package.
4. Add a note to the buyer if you want to.
5. Select the shipping carrier and type the tracking number.
6. Preview the buyer notification, then select Complete order.

02Adding tracking after you completed the order

Go to Orders, then Completed, open the menu next to the order and choose Add a package. A new number is added next to any number already there.

03Fixing a wrong number

When you add a number manually, Etsy gives you 3 days to change the number or the carrier. After that, Etsy suggests you send the buyer the right number in an Etsy message and keep it in the order’s private notes.

04Do you need it?

For US sellers, adding tracking is required to complete an order. For everyone, orders for physical items need a valid tracking number to count toward Star Seller and to qualify for Etsy’s Purchase Protection. Digital items, local pickup and oversized or heavy items are exceptions.

05Where to find the AliExpress number

Open your order with the supplier, then copy the tracking number and the carrier’s name. If the carrier is not in Etsy’s list, pick the closest option the form offers, such as Other, and type the carrier’s name next to the number.

Doing it automatically with Sereane
