How to update a tracking number on Etsy

Etsy says that once you complete an order and add tracking manually, you have 3 days to change the tracking number or the shipping carrier. After those 3 days, Etsy’s page offers no way to edit it, only the options further down.

02How to update a tracking number on Etsy

1. On Etsy.com, open Shop Manager, then Orders.
2. Select Completed.
3. Open the order and scroll down to the package you want to fix.
4. Select Edit tracking next to the original tracking number.
5. Change the tracking number or the carrier, then select Save.

03After the 3 days

Etsy suggests two things: send the buyer the right number in Etsy Messages, and write it in the private notes of the order for your records.

You can also add a package to the completed order. In Completed, select the three-dot icon next to the order, then Add a package. Etsy says the new number then appears on the order in addition to the earlier one. The old number stays, so tell the buyer which one to follow.

04Before you change anything

Common sense, not an Etsy rule: compare the number on Etsy with the one your supplier gave you, character by character. A number that shows nothing yet is not always wrong. 05Why the right number matters

Etsy requires tracking for an order to count toward Star Seller and for Purchase Protection. For US sellers, Etsy requires tracking to complete an order. Etsy also says it sends the shipping notification on the ship date, or, for some carriers, only once the package is scanned.

With Sereane

For the orders Sereane created at the supplier, it puts the tracking number on the right Etsy order as soon as the parcel ships. There is nothing to copy, so there is no number to retype. Sereane cannot change the carrier the supplier chose.
