1. On Etsy.com, open Shop Manager, then Orders.
2. Choose the three-dot icon next to the order, then Refund.
3. Select a Reason for issuing a refund. You can add a Message to buyer.
4. Leave Issue a full refund unticked. Enter the Amount to refund next to the item.
5. Select Review refund, check the amount, then Submit.

Etsy’s refund page calls this menu item Refund. Its page on canceling a sale calls the same item Issue a refund. It is the same step.

02When Etsy does not let you refund

• Payment still processing. Etsy says you cannot refund or cancel an order that is still processing. Most orders paid with Etsy Payments finish processing within 24 to 72 hours.
• After 180 days. With Etsy Payments, you can refund after the payment is processed and until 180 days afterward. After that, you cannot refund through Etsy Payments.
• A chargeback. If the buyer filed a chargeback with their bank, the order is no longer refundable from your side.

If the Issue a Refund button is missing, Etsy says the order is non-refundable.

03Where the money comes from, and which fees come back

With Etsy Payments, the refund is taken from your Payment account. If the balance is too low, Etsy charges the card on file for the rest. Etsy refunds its transaction and processing fees on the refunded part automatically. Listing fees only come back if you also cancel the transaction.

04What the buyer sees

Etsy may let the buyer take the refund as Etsy credit or back to their original payment method. As the seller, you cannot choose or change that. If the buyer asks where the refund is, Etsy asks you to send them to Etsy Support.

05Partial refund or cancellation?

A partial refund keeps the order open: the buyer still gets the item. If the item will not ship at all, cancel the order instead, and Etsy refunds the buyer in full.
